Course overview
This course develops students’ understanding of key concepts and analytical tools in corporate finance. It examines how firms create and maximize value through financing, investment, and strategic decisions, with a focus on corporate governance, capital structure, cost of capital, capital budgeting, payout policy, initial public offerings, and mergers and acquisitions. The course equips students with the theoretical foundations and practical skills required to evaluate financial decisions in a global business environment and supports the development of critical thinking, quantitative analysis, and professional decision-making capabilities.

Course learning outcomes
- Explain and apply key corporate finance theories and analyse capital structure using appropriate financial theories and quantitative techniques to assess their implications for firm value.
- Evaluate investment opportunities and corporate projects using financial analysis, cash flow estimation, project appraisal techniques, and real options frameworks.
- Critically evaluate corporate financial policies and capital market transactions, including payout policies, initial public offerings, seasoned equity offerings, and other strategic financing decisions.
- Assess the influence of behavioural and sustainability considerations, including behavioural finance and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors, on corporate financial decision-making.
- Interpret and communicate financial analyses and recommendations using evidence-based reasoning and professional judgement to support corporate financial decision-making.
