Course overview
This course equips learners with essential skills for purifying biotechnologically significant proteins and
understanding how they are adapted to large-scale industrial production. Throughout the course,
students will explore a variety of protein purification techniques through interactive workshops and
hands-on laboratory practicals. Techniques include affinity chromatography, ion exchange
chromatography and gel filtration. Learners will apply their new-found knowledge to the purification
of novel proteins of biotechnological interest, discovering how to evaluate the resulting proteins for
commercial regulatory requirements. By the end of this course, learners will be well-prepared to
contribute to the efficient and compliant production of biotechnologically relevant proteins in
