Course overview

This course aims to equip students with foundational knowledge and practical skills in construction scheduling, enabling them to plan, organise, and control project timelines using both deterministic and stochastic methods. Students will develop the ability to analyse activities, allocate resources effectively, and anticipate potential delays to enhance efficiency and minimise risks in construction projects. This course further develops students’ understanding of construction safety legislation, risk management, and industry standards. This course enables students to assess hazards, investigate accidents, and apply effective control measures, while developing skills to promote ethical and legal responsibilities that prioritise worker wellbeing. Through applying safety alongside construction planning principles, students will be ready to manage projects confidently and responsibly in the dynamic construction industry.

Course learning outcomes

  • Explain the principles of time management and their application in planning and scheduling construction projects.
  • Apply deterministic and stochastic scheduling techniques to develop, analyse, and control construction project timelines.
  • Analyse construction site hazards and causes of accidents.
  • Evaluate risk management strategies for construction sites to ensure compliance with WHS regulations and industry standards
  • Integrate safety management systems and practices into the preparation of safe work method statements
