Course overview
The course aims to develop students’ ability to apply Building Information Modelling (BIM) principles and digital construction methodologies across the project lifecycle. Students will gain practical skills in creating, integrating, and analysing 3D models, simulating construction sequences (4D), and performing cost planning (5D) using industry-standard tools. Emphasis is placed on collaborative workflows, compliance with BIM standards, and critical evaluation of digital processes to support informed decision-making in sustainable building and infrastructure projects.
- BIM Fundamentals
- 3D BIM Development and Model Integration
- Construction Sequencing and 4D BIM Integration
- 5D BIM for Quantification and Cost Management
Course learning outcomes
- Explain the fundamental concepts, rationale, and standards of Building Information Modelling (BIM), including its structure, processes, and lifecycle.
- Interpret and navigate 3D BIM models to identify key components, relationships, and data embedded within the model environment.
- Create and develop 3D BIM models using industry-standard tools, ensuring compliance with established BIM standards and workflows
- Integrate and review BIM models for coordination and quantity extraction, applying model-checking techniques to detect clashes and extract accurate quantities.
- Apply 4D BIM techniques to simulate construction sequencing and scheduling, utilizing tools like Navisworks for visualization, risk analysis, and collaborative planning
- Evaluate and implement 5D BIM processes for cost estimation and benchmarking, integrating quantification principles with cost data to support decision-making.
