Course overview

This course builds on the foundational knowledge from Fundamentals of Procurement and Supply to develop students’ strategic procurement capabilities. Students will critically examine procurement frameworks, structures, governance, category management, global and commercial sourcing strategies, supplier relationships, contracts, pricing, negotiation, and innovation in public, private, and SME contexts. Emphasis is placed on leveraging these elements for competitive advantage, organisational value creation, and achieving world-class procurement performance in a dynamic digital economy

Course learning outcomes

  • Critically evaluate advanced procurement structures, governance frameworks, and strategies and their role in delivering organisational strategic advantage and value creation across public, private, and SME contexts.
  • Analyse and assess the transformative impact of digitalisation, emerging technologies, and innovation on procurement performance and competitive positioning.
  • Critically analyse complex issues in strategic sourcing, global procurement, supplier relationship management, contracts, pricing, and commercial decisions; design and recommend integrated solutions that enhance value and resilience
  • Demonstrate advanced problem-solving, strategic negotiation, collaborative leadership, and reflective skills required for effective decision-making and procurement excellence in contemporary organisations.
