Course overview

This course provides students with advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of industry expectations around the critical evaluation, research methodology and preparation of strategic reports. The course provides a pathway to further learning and development after completion of the MBA. Contents include: introduction to strategic management research; identifying research questions or key issues or process of business model development; research design; data collection: qualitative and quantitative methods and techniques; critical analysis of and use of primary and secondary data, and use of this data for report writing and presentation

Course learning outcomes

  • Design and justify a rigorous research proposal that addresses a strategically significant organisational, industry, or societal issue.
  • Critically evaluate and apply relevant theories, frameworks, and research methodologies to investigate complex strategic problems.
  • Collect, analyse, and synthesise primary and secondary data using appropriate qualitative and/or quantitative methods to generate defensible insights.
  • Formulate and justify evidence-based strategic recommendations that create organisational and/or industry value
  • Critically reflect on professional practice, ethical considerations, and leadership capability in the conduct of strategic research and industry engagement.
