Course overview

To introduce the skill of academic writing to students who are new to the university learning environment with a focus on research and information literacy, writing conventions, essay and report writing structure and academic integrity. The course also aims to build learning strategies, study and career plans for the student’s future.

Course learning outcomes

  • Apply research strategies to locate and evaluate academic sources to construct an essay or report utilising appropriate academic writing referencing conventions.
  • Identify language register appropriate to academic genre.
  • Utilise digital tools to explore study and career options in local and global contexts.
  • Identify productive strategies to work effectively in groups and alone.
