Course overview

This course aims to provide students with the conceptual tools and capabilities they will need to build belonging in the environments in which they live and work. By exploring how practices and dialogues can enable recognition of diverse perspectives and experiences, the course fosters students’ development into global citizens, trusted communicators, and resilient thinkers.

Course learning outcomes

  • Define and explain key concepts of belonging and describe the complexities of its formation
  • Analyse examples of how sensory artistic practices and linguistic interactions can foster recognition, drawing on relevant theoretical frameworks
  • Demonstrate informed appreciation of diverse cultural perspectives and experiences by evaluating how different ways of being are recognised
  • Critically reflect on and articulate their own cultural positioning and apply this self-understanding to propose strategies for fostering belonging
