Course overview
This course introduces the fundamental principles of human pathology, with a focus on how changes in normal physiological processes contribute to disease and affect patientoutcomes. Students with gain a broad understanding of common and clinically significant conditions across major organ systems. By using an integrated systems-based approach,students will explore the causes, mechanisms and structural changes associated with a range of prevalent diseases in Australia. This foundation will enable students to recogniseand understand these conditions in their future practice.
Course learning outcomes
- Apply the principles of human anatomy and physiology to the pathology of common health problems that are relevant to medical radiation practice.
- Summarise the pathology behind these common health problems ,including their presentation, natural history, and diagnostic features.
- Analyse how common health conditions impact individuals and wider society using culturally safe and appropriate case studies
- Communicate common pathological concepts clearly and effectively to both professional and lay audiences
- Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills by engaging with real-world scenarios and case studies
