Course overview

This course introduces students to a wide variety of techniques and methods used by the earth sciences industry. Students will be provided with knowledge and a framework to use selected techniques to address specific industry challenges. Students will generate new geological, geophysics and/or geochemical data to develop integrated geologic models to advance scientific knowledge and understanding of industry challenges.

Course learning outcomes

  • Identify a relevant Georesources industry challenge and develop a project proposal to investigate this challenge
  • Identify, evaluate and develop appropriate methods of techniques to feasibly address the Georesources industry
  • Analyse and interpret a range of geological, geophysical and/or geochemical datasets to produce meaningful insights, making evidence-based conclusions with industry applications
  • Implement and manage research activities effectively, demonstrating project planning, time management and initiative
  • Design and demonstrate methods for communication of the project approach and outcomes tailored for diverse audiences
