Course overview
The core focus is to prepare teachers and leaders to develop knowledge and critical understandings of current national and international evidence based research to improve Indigenous students' achievement. Drawing on Australian Aboriginal Education theory and culturally responsive theoretical frameworks, this course investigates how Indigenous Peoples maintain and revitalise local languages and cultural knowledges as they relate to teaching and learning. Approaches will include development of appropriate teaching and learning practices that are relevant to place. Attention will be drawn to the shared responsibilities of all Australians to unlearn deficit racialised beliefs and practices which prevent collective flourishing in schooling

Course learning outcomes
- Explain the knowledge and skills required to work effectively with diverse Aboriginal learners, families, peoples, perspectives, and histories
- Explain and justify assessment, curriculum and evidence-based pedagogical practices relevant to Aboriginal education
- Interpret knowledge of culturally responsive teaching that respects and values the democratic rights of Aboriginal children and the sovereignties of Aboriginal First Nations through education
