Course overview
This course will introduce and develop an understanding of the use of computer aided design (CAD) software packages to visualise and design solutions in order to produce designs into a physical project through the use of laser cutting, 3D printing or CNC machining. Pre-service teachers will develop their expertise in operating state of the art machinery and maintaining best workshop practices. Additionally, students are introduced to sustainability in design and production processes while ensuring all practices meet WHS requirements.

Course learning outcomes
- Apply a design process to research, design and develop innovative products using sustainable materials, processes, technologies and systems
- Identify the specific characteristics, properties and appropriate usage of various types of materials and composite materials
- Apply WHS knowledge to competently and safely operate a range of state-of-the-art digital equipment as well as hand and power tools and machines to realise products in tangible materials
- Apply critical thinking in evaluating products in terms of design, materials and systems production
