Course overview

To develop students as educators who have a critical awareness of the impact of diversity and identity on school students' experiences of, and engagement with, educational institutions.

Course learning outcomes

  • Explain how educational processes are linked to structural power relations along axes of socioeconomic, gender, racial and ethnic differences
  • Evaluate key elements of social justice, anti-racist and multicultural education policies and pedagogical approaches
  • Evaluate the extent to which education processes both develop and maintain cultural capital
  • Recognise the influence of social, cultural, political and historical factors on educators' practice
  • Evaluate ways to implement inclusive and socially just teaching approaches
