Course overview
This course critically examines the disciplinary and pedagogical foundations of Humanities and Social Sciences in the secondary years, developing students' capacity to evaluate, design and justify curriculum and teaching approaches across History, Geography, Civics and Citizenship, and Economics and Business.
Course learning outcomes
- Critically evaluate Humanities and Social Sciences as a specialisation in a secondary school context, synthesising curriculum frameworks, pedagogical approaches and resources to justify evidence-based practice.
- Design and critically evaluate lesson plans and learning sequences that integrate advanced, evidence-informed pedagogies to support diverse learners in Humanities and Social Sciences.
- Design, justify and critically evaluate an out-of-school learning experience that is achievable, engaging and accessible for diverse learner groups, drawing on place-based and experiential learning research.
- Apply advanced skills of critical reflection and analysis to evaluate and refine teaching and learning sequences, generating evidence-based recommendations for improved practice.
