Course overview
This course provides a critical examination of arts educational theory and pedagogy. Students apply their existing arts discipline specific knowledge in dance, drama, media arts, music, visual arts and/or creative arts in secondary educational contexts. Students synthesise arts educational research and discipline specific knowledge when designing, evaluating and leading sophisticated arts learning experiences, and critically interrogate their role as emerging arts educators.
Course learning outcomes
- Critically synthesise and apply arts discipline knowledge to design and evaluate learning experiences in secondary contexts across diverse student groups.
- Select, evaluate and justify arts pedagogical approaches when designing and implementing arts learning experiences for young people across diverse contexts
- Design and critically evaluate theoretically grounded arts learning sequences that are authentic, culturally responsive and appropriate for particular secondary contexts.
- Strategically curate and appraise a diverse range of arts educational and industry resources and technologies to support the planning of authentic arts learning experiences
- Lead critical self-inquiry and collaborative reflection on arts practice and pedagogy, generating evidence-based strategies for ongoing professional growth and advocacy for the arts.
