Course overview

This course provides an advanced critical examination of the theoretical, curricular and pedagogical foundations of Languages education in Australian secondary contexts. Students will synthesise research and policy to design, implement, evaluate and advocate for high-quality multilingually oriented Languages teaching that promotes proficiency and intercultural understanding for diverse learners.

Course learning outcomes

  • Critically analyse and synthesise research to design, implement and evaluate intercultural and multilingual learning experiences secondary education.
  • Synthesise theory and curriculum frameworks to design, justify and evaluate Languages learning sequences that respond to diverse learner needs and contemporary challenges.
  • Critically evaluate, adapt and apply language teaching methodologies and pedagogies to address complex educational challenges across diverse Australian education contexts.
  • Critically appraise, adapt and justify resources and technologies for language teaching, addressing varied learning needs and educational contexts.
  • Engage in critical reflection and scholarly inquiry into contemporary theory and practice in languages education, to inform ongoing development of learners, users and teachers of languages in secondary education contexts.
