Course overview
This course provides an advanced critical examination of the theoretical, pedagogical and curricular foundations of Health and Physical Education. Students will synthesise research and literature on physical activity, inclusive pedagogy and cultural diversity to design, evaluate and lead appropriate HPE learning experiences, as well as develop critical professional capacity to advocate for equitable, evidence-based HPE practice.

Course learning outcomes
- Critically synthesise and evaluate research and literature on physical activity, health and development, constructing informed arguments about the role of HPE in addressing inequity and challenging biases affecting diverse learner groups.
- Appraise and integrate intercultural competencies, disciplinary knowledge and professional judgement to lead equitable, culturally responsive outcomes across the HPE curriculum.
- Embed theoretically justified principles of inclusive practice, cultural diversity and holistic learner development across physical, cognitive, social and affective domains.
- Construct, lead and critically evaluate HPE lessons and units to be safe, inclusive and developmentally appropriate as well as responsive to the needs of EAL/D, First Nations and diverse learner groups.
- Conduct and lead rigorous critical self-reflection into HPE practice, generating evidence-based models of culturally, socially and physically inclusive teaching for ongoing professional improvement.
