Course overview

To explore relationships/intersections between character education and classroom management and whole learner development within an Islamic pedagogy. To develop approaches and strategies that promote engaging learning environments, develop productive learner behaviours and foster inclinations and habits toward ethical and moral conduct with a spiritual awareness.

Course learning outcomes

  • appreciate child development theory within an Islamic worldview and education tradition with relevance to contemporary educational praxis for Islamic schooling
  • identify key principles and concepts shaping moral development, character education, and discipline and classroom management within a rubric of Islamic pedagogy for contemporary Islamic schooling
  • develop knowledge, skills and attitudes to support pedagogy promoting engaging learning environments that are sacred, disciplined, caring and functional
  • critically reflect on a 'Dignified Way' as a conceptual framing to contemporary character education and classroom management approaches for Islamic schooling
