Course overview
This course prepares pre-service teachers for teaching by equipping them with knowledge of and skills in effective planning, sequencing of content and tasks, explicit teaching, formative and summative assessment, and feedback practices for Primary contexts. The course also emphasises understanding how children learn, the use of brain-based strategies for instruction, and the design of tasks and assessments that foster long-term retention and mastery.

Course learning outcomes
- Plan and sequence instruction that aligns with curriculum goals, progressively challenges students, and incorporates strategies such as spacing, retrieval practice, and differentiation to meet diverse student needs.
- Understand and apply a range of pedagogical practices, including explicit teaching, modelling and scaffolding practices, to support student learning, promote deep understanding, and minimise cognitive load.
