Course overview
To introduce students to the theological foundations and educational practice of interreligious dialogue and encounter from a Catholic perspective, with particular attention to pedagogical approaches that foster dialogue and religious literacy in Catholic secondary classrooms. Students will examine contemporary issues in interreligious relations and consider their implications for teaching and learning in religiously plural contexts.
Course learning outcomes
- Explain the theological foundations of Catholic engagement with other religions, particularly developments following the Second Vatican Council.
- Demonstrate an informed understanding of key features of major religious traditions, including Judaism and Islam.
- Analyse historical and contemporary issues affecting relationships between religions, including themes such as dialogue, conflict and religious pluralism.
- Interpret and apply the Crossways Religious Education Curriculum in relation to teaching about religious diversity.
- Design pedagogically appropriate learning experiences for Catholic secondary classrooms that foster dialogue, encounter and religious literacy
