Course overview
This course provides students with theoretical knowledge in linear control theory and analytical skills in model-based analysis, multidomain modelling and simulation, and design of controllers control systems using industry-standard tools. Students will be introduced to various applications of feedback control systems and develop fundamentals associated with modelling, analysis, design and simulation of automatic control systems.
- Introduction to control systems and LTI dynamic systems modelling
- Dynamic systems stability and response
- Control systems design
Course learning outcomes
- Explain the concept of feedback in control systems
- Model various dynamical systems analytically using differential equations, state-space representation, and transfer functions
- Analyse the stability and performance of any linear time invariant feedback control systems
- Design feedback controllers using root locus, pole placement and Zieger Nichols methods
- Use software tools to design, analyse, and evaluate control systems in the time domain
