Course overview
This course provides students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in the principles, techniques, and applications of refrigeration and air conditioning systems across a variety of applications. It details at such aspects of design as vapour compression refrigeration cycles; types, selection and operation of refrigeration and air conditioning systems; heating and cooling load estimation and analysis; controls; fans and duct systems.

Course learning outcomes
- Understand and apply thermodynamic and psychrometric processes in the design and analysis of air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
- Explain and estimate the heating and cooling loads together with air con system energy consumption, using standard industry practices.
- Be able to size, select and/or design appropriate air conditioning, distribution, and refrigeration systems (and their components) taking into account environmental conditions, applications, and specification.
