The aim of this course is to equip students with the theoretical foundation and empirical knowledge to understand the dynamics and driving forces of demographic changes (e.g. fertility, mortality, migration), and understand their vital implications for policy and planning. This course addresses significant population issues and policy challenges facing the world, with a focus on Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.

Course learning outcomes
- Analyse global population dynamics and the driving forces of demographic change, specifically in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
- Explain the differing changes in scale, composition, characteristics, and distribution of the world’s populations.
- Develop insights into building links between population and migration studies into policies and related programs.
- Engage with foundational theories and concepts relating population and migration trends and Patterns.
- Synthesise and evaluate population-related information through oral presentations and written reports.
- Collaborate effectively in individual and group settings towards the completion of course tasks and assignments.
