Course overview
- Applied Human Anatomy will enable students to understand the structural and functional relationships in the human body and apply this anatomical knowledge in clinical contexts. The course curriculum is organised by anatomical region into three modules that will address the relevant anatomy of the (i) thorax, (ii) abdomen and pelvis and (iii) head and neck. Students will explore different organs and organ systems, learn about anatomical features and explore the structures in 3D by investigating prosected human cadaveric specimens and life-size models.
- This course will provide students with foundational anatomical knowledge, thereby preparing students for post-graduate careers in health, biomedical science, and related fields by underpinning clinical reasoning, imaging interpretation, and basic understanding of some disease processes.
- The course will demonstrate how anatomical knowledge is used in real-world settings.
- The course will also foster the development of transferable skills such as spatial reasoning and observational skills, as well as professional conduct and ethical engagement with human donor material.

Course learning outcomes
- Explain, in detail, the gross anatomy of the head and neck, thorax, abdomen and pelvis
- Define the blood supply and innervation of key structures in the head and neck, thorax, abdomen and pelvis
- Identify and describe key anatomical landmarks related to the head and neck, thorax, abdomen and pelvis in models and prosected cadaveric specimen
- Apply anatomical knowledge in the context of clinical scenarios
- Describe key anatomical structures on common medical images
- Consistently demonstrate professional behaviour and ethical conduct when working with human donor material
