Course overview

The aim of this course is to explore and apply text and social media analytic methods and tools. The aim of this course is topics covered in this course include: principles of text analytics, information retrieval; acquiring data from social media; content analysis, sentiment analysis; using text analytics methods; and analysing social media-sourced text data to address a business question.

Course learning outcomes

  • Evaluate and plan the acquisition of text and other types of data from social media sites to formulate a business problem.
  • Determine the data requirements to extract from web and social network sites needed to address a business problem.
  • Apply a range of analytics techniques to text that has been derived from web or social network sources.
  • Derive insights from analysing text and other types of data to infer solutions to a business problem.
