Course overview
This course aims to enhance the way students approach traditional design processes, transitioning them into the digital era. This course delves deep into the conversion of conventional drawing methods into comprehensive 2D and 3D digital formats suitable for contemporary workplace applications. By exploring advanced techniques in 3D modelling, information modelling standards, and digital documentation, students will learn to produce precise, professional-standard outputs. The course not only emphasises skill enhancement in using cutting-edge software but also fosters an understanding of how these digital tools integrate into the broader scope of interior architecture, enhancing both individual and collaborative professional capabilities.

- Hand-drawn spatial layouts, annotated sections/elevations; design development by sketch
- Refining hand drawings; sketch-to-detail workflows; preparing annotated design boards
- Light introduction to Revit families; parameters, templates, simple extrusions
- BIM fundamentals; ISO 19650, NATSPEC BIM Guide; Autodesk Style Guide standards for families
- Family creation workflows (Aubin): templates, reference planes, constraints, parameters, materials
- Documentation protocols: plans, sections, elevations, schedules; hybrid detailing (Perkins+Will best practices
- Advanced families: nested, parametric joinery, identity data; FM-ready families (COBie, asset info)
- Coordinated documentation set; sheets, schedules, rendering outputs; model reliability & troubleshooting
- Final project integration and presentation; reflection on BIM standards, FM alignment, lifecycle uses
