Course overview

This course aims to provide a student with an advanced and in-depth experience in reflexive and entrepreneurial journalism practice through a range of production exercises and projects. Focusing on areas such as science, sports, travel and arts & culture journalism, the course will provide students with industry relevant projects, with the aim of producing industry standard journalism work across a range of platforms.

Course learning outcomes

  • Research and plan a polished piece of in-depth, social justice and multimedia journalism.
  • Apply advanced journalism research techniques and skills, including data research, visualisation, interpretation and analysis, investigative interviewing, and reporting empirical evidence, to create and produce an in-depth work of multimedia journalism to a professional standard.
  • Identify and comply with the ethical and legal guidelines and requirements involved in the production of a major work of journalism.
  • Reflect on the research and production process while incorporating relevant concepts and theories in journalism studies.
  • Write and/or present in multiple formats to a professional standard, including sentence structure, spelling and grammar, appropriate presentation and referencing.
