Course overview

This course is designed for learners who have foundational understanding of Greek language and culture. It will reinforce prior learning while introducing more advanced concepts that will help develop skills to understand and produce elementary spoken and written Greek through exposure to various forms of multimodal content. The intent of the course is to cultivate elementary language skills and promote a greater understanding of Greek culture, equipping students for meaningful participation in an increasingly interconnected global workforce.

  • Language in daily contexts: Recreation, routines, and journeys 
  • Engaging with tradition: Past, present and future; food and markets; fashion; celebrations
  • Exploring environments and identity: The natural world, aspirations, professional and personal identity 

Course learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate foundational skills in speaking and writing Greek
  • Demonstrate correct use of foundational grammar, language analysis and culturally appropriate expressions in spoken and written Greek
  • Comprehend meaning and respond effectively to diverse text types suited to foundational level Greek
  • Evaluate and reflect critically on contemporary Greek cultural and social themes presented in the courses
  • Develop awareness of cultural similarities and differences between Greek and other languages using course resources and experiences
