Course overview
To equip students with the ability to analyse and interpret data using appropriate statistical tools and techniques.
Course learning outcomes
- Illustrate fundamental statistical concepts, including sample, population, statistic, parameter, confidence level, significance level, data, variable, and data collection and sampling methods.
- Apply descriptive statistics by calculating measures such as mean, median, mode, variance, range, and standard deviation, and by constructing appropriate graphical representations of data.
- Apply inferential statistical techniques by analysing and interpreting data, testing hypotheses for population parameters, examining relationships between variables, and making valid statistical inferences.
- Use statistical software packages to analyse and interpret data effectively.
- Demonstrate critical thinking and decision making skills by evaluating the reliability and validity of statistical conclusions and identifying the limitations of statistical analyses.
