Course overview

Mathematical Science students can apply for Industry internship opportunities (120 hours) advertised through Adelaide University's Work Integrated Learning (WIL) management system, InPlace. In some cases, students may be able to source their own Industry internship with College approval. Industry internships provide students with a professional setting where their academic knowledge can be applied, where they can reflect on the application of their technical skills in a professional context, and where development of their professional competencies can be reinforced.

Placements will be dependent on the availability of a host organisation, successful application, and completion of all required documentation (including Program Director approval) before the commencement date.

Course learning outcomes

  • Employ an understanding of industry context to help an organisation achieve workplace outcomes, including security and ethical principles (preservation of privacy, ensuring security measures, and upholding intellectual property rights)
  • Apply mathematical techniques & knowledge gained through prior learning throughout their degree to effectively address & solve requirements of the workplace provider.
  • Apply and practice strong communication skills in a variety of professional or cultural contexts to prepare industry deliverables, technical reports or deliver presentations.
  • Reflect on the benefits of the internship experience, recognising and articulating the enhancement of employability skills gained through their practical application & communication required within a professional environment.

  • Must have completed MATH1020 Communication and Research Skills in Mathematics AND must have completed at least 18 units of Mathematics courses at Level 2.
