Course overview
The aim of this course is to develop students' ability to apply contemporary pharmacotherapeutics knowledge to the individual patient in actual or simulated practice settings. Clinical application of knowledge of pharmacotherapeutics to optimise health outcomes for individual patients in the following health discipline areas: Antimicrobials; Cardiology; Respiratory medicine; Endocrinology. For each of these discipline areas, specific conditions managed with pharmacotherapeutic modalities will be addressed.
Course learning outcomes
- Justify the use of medicines in the treatment of specific patients with diseases/disorders encompassed in this course.
- Apply the principles of pharmacotherapeutics to the selection of the most appropriate medicine in the treatment of specific patients with the diseases/disorders encompassed in this course.
- Clearly state the goals of medication treatment in specific patients with the diseases/disorders encompassed in this course.
- Optimise the use of the selected medicine(s) in the treatment of specific patients with the diseases/disorders encompassed in this course.
- Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills appropriate for patients and fellow health professionals regarding the management of complex therapeutic situations
