Course overview

These courses are designed to meet the Education Requirements for the SA Community Pharmacy Expanded Scope of Practice Initiative. In these courses, pharmacists will develop their professional capabilities in providing timely and appropriate care for people presenting with commonly encountered primary healthcare problems, aligned with the initiative. This part of the program will reinforce the approach and apply skills gained in Pharmacist Prescribing Skills 1 and 2, including the application of the prescribing framework, undertaking of healthcare procedures (e.g. wound care, fluoride application), interprofessional communication and collaborative practice, and self-reflection.

Course learning outcomes

  • Deliver care that aligns with the legal, ethical, and professional standards within simulated contexts
  • Apply the person-centred prescribing process to define the needs of the consumer within simulated contexts.
  • Perform clinical examinations and assessments to identify a person's needs within simulated contexts.
  • Apply clinical reasoning and a person-centred approach to achieve well-informed, shared prescribing decisions within simulated contexts.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with consumers and care providers to facilitate safe and effective use of medicines within simulated contexts.
  • Document clear, legal, and effective records relating to prescribing decisions within simulated contexts.
  • Define and communicate a person-centred plan for monitoring and review to support ongoing safe and effective use of medicines within simulated contexts
