Course overview

This calculus-based course following Physics 1A further develops a student's knowledge and understanding of the fundamental laws and principles of physics and their practical applications. Topics covered will include rotational physics and dynamics, waves, optics, special relativity, and quantum physics.

Course learning outcomes

  • Qualitatively describe, explain and predict the behaviour of simple physical systems, using the fundamental laws, principles, and concepts across a range of physics topics, including rotational dynamics, oscillations, waves, optics, relativity and quantum physics.
  • Quantitatively analyse and solve simple physical systems using structured problem-solving techniques, mathematical methods and computational techniques.
  • Apply scientific methods experimentally and analyse the resulting experimental data, accounting for uncertainties inherent within the experimental methods, techniques, and equipment used.
  • Document the processes and approaches used, and solution arrived at, when solving problems and working in an experimental or laboratory environment.
  • Present and convey scientific and technical information in the form of a poster or video, acknowledging and referencing work other than their own.
  • Work cooperatively in a team to solve theoretical and practical problems.

  • Must have completed all of MATH1000 Foundations in Mathematics/PHYS1000 Foundations in Physics OR must have completed SACE Stage 2 Physics and SACE Stage 2 Mathematical Methods
