This course progresses from the level 1 introduction to optical physics, providing an introduction to solid state physics and continuing the development of practical problem-solving using laboratory experiments.

- Explain light propagation in optical systems including polarisation effects.
- Explain concepts and models of crystalline solids and semiconductors.
- Apply knowledge of light propagation and solid state physics to solve simple problems.
