Course overview
In this course students will analyse and critique social policy processes and their application to human services in Australia. Students will develop advanced skills in social policies analysis. Specifically, students will research and analyse social work and human service policies in relation to: policy cycles; policy planning, instruments, analysis, implementation and evaluation; resources allocation; equity and diversity; government and third sector relationships; global social policy and policy transfers, and policy activism.
Course learning outcomes
- Investigate and analyse some of the major social policy orientations and assess the implications for policy design
- Critically analyse the historical, international and changing contexts for policy action
- Identify principles and processes of resource gathering, allocation and redistribution in the changing welfare state
- Assess the impact of political economy on relationships between the public sector, third sector and citizen
- Use a framework for the analysis of Australian social policies
