Course overview

This course enhances communication, relational, and counselling skills by applying counselling theories and models in supervised practice, observation, and reflective learning contexts. Students examine the application of key theoretical perspectives in contemporary counselling practice and develop counselling responses through structured skills practice and observation. Students integrate advanced counselling skills with counselling theory, relational practice, and reflective professional capability in supervised simulations with simulated clients. The course also supports critical reflection on the personal attributes, values, strengths, and areas for development relevant to counselling practice. By the end of the course, students will demonstrate coherent, ethical, culturally responsive, and theoretically informed helping practice. Students who successfully complete the sequence of the three undergraduate counselling courses may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning in the Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy program subject to meeting entry requirements.
