Course overview
In this course, students will develop the appropriate knowledge, skills and attitudes for Nuclear Medicine clinical practice.
Course learning outcomes
- Describe the theory and practice of skeletal, respiratory, endocrine, and genitourinary nuclear medicine procedures for a range of patient populations.
- Describe the radioactive generator, chemistry and biodistribution of radiopharmaceuticals used in skeletal, respiratory, endocrine, and genitourinary system procedures and characterise findings as normal, pathological or unexpected.
- Discuss radiation safety and protection principles in nuclear medicine including application of these concepts in practice.
- Discuss Nuclear Medicine instrumentation including quality control, gamma camera planar and SPECT image acquisition, image processing, data storage and security and accessory equipment.
- Outline principles of quality and safety in healthcare including interpersonal communication, radiation safety, ethics and legalities andapply relevant National Safety and Quality in Health Service (NSQHS) standard where applicable.
