Course overview
This course will develop the appropriate knowledge, skills and attitudes leading to a more complex level of Medical Imaging clinical practice for clients across lifespan, levels of disability and varied pathologies. Course content includes modified radiographic techniques and patient care relating to trauma, mobiles & operating theatres, geriatric, paediatric; digital imaging manipulation; image analysis and evaluation; infection control; fluoroscopy; contrast media; radiographic examinations involving contrast media; the disabled patient; teamwork; scope of practice.
Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrate knowledge in the modification of basic radiographic procedures, including the digital manipulation of images.
- Demonstrate a theoretical knowledge of radiographic procedures relating to trauma, operating procedures, geriatric, paediatric and mobile radiography.
- Evaluate images for demonstration of pathology, catheters, leads and drains and recommend suggestions for image optimisation and correction.
- Discuss the applications and radiation safety issues of fluoroscopy.
- Describe the range and applications of radiographic examinations which involve the administration of non ionic, ionic, contrast agents, intravenously or non intravenously, including renal and biliary and GI examination; and the properties and applications of contrast media.
- Identify strategies applicable to examining patients with varying levels of disability, including those who are hearing and sight impaired, or unconscious in a case based scenario using teamwork.
- Discuss the scope of practice of a medical imaging professional.
