Course overview

This course will enable students to consolidate and apply in a practice environment the knowledge, skills and behaviours developed in the academic program. Contents include Application of knowledge and skills gained in the academic program to the practice setting. Use of self-directed online learning to explore and extend knowledge and issues that arise from the placement experience. Supervised clinical placement will be completed for conditions relating to musculoskeletal, neuromuscular / neurological, cardiopulmonary / metabolic. Clinical hours must involve direct contact with the client such as treatment, assessment, reporting, program development, case reviews and case management or training associated with specific clinical tasks.

Course learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate well-developed professional and ethical conduct consistent with the scope of practice and code of conduct for an Accredited Exercise Physiologist as defined by ESSA and any other relevant authorities.
  • Demonstrate well-developed technical and cognitive skills and knowledge of best evidence based clinical exercise physiology practice to support clients in managing the Accredited Exercise Physiologist target pathologies commensurate with an entry level accredited practitioner.
  • Demonstrate well-developed technical and cognitive skills and knowledge of best practice written and verbal communication to support collaborative well-documented practice commensurate with an entry level accredited practitioner
  • Demonstrate well-developed skills in interpersonal communication to facilitate client centred, socio-culturally sensitive practice that supports health behaviour change and self-management commensurate with an entry level accredited practitioner.
  • Demonstrate characteristics of a self- motivated learner and reflective practitioner who is committed to ongoing professional development and continuous improvement.
