Course overview

This is an elective course in the Graduate Certificate in Research Skills and Master of Research programs intended to provide an introduction to perspectives of First Nation peoples on research, and an awareness and understanding of Indigenous epistemologies, perspectives, methodologies, methods and principles.

Course learning outcomes

  • Analyse and critically reflect on historical and contemporary research practices relating to First Nations peoples and critically evaluate the social, historical, and political impacts that informed them and apply this understanding to reflect both knowing and doing in practice
  • Select and critically review scholarly literature to provide understandings of Indigenous research frameworks and methodologies, ethical implications and application within academic contexts.
