Course overview

This is an elective course in the Graduate Certificate in Research Skills and Master of Research programs intended to provide an introduction to the use of advanced computational and modelling techniques in a variety of research disciplines. The course will introduce methods for analysing very large data sets using artificial intelligence and high performance computation. Some key data repositories accessible to researchers in different disciplines will be identified. Methods of accessing HPC and data resources will be discussed.

  • Introduction and Data
  • Quantitative Methods
  • Qualitative Methods
  • Visualisation and Presentation

Course learning outcomes

  • Explain how the correct use of suitable computational methods leads to improved reliability and accuracy in answering research questions.
  • Identify key issues in the use of computational methods.
  • Critically evaluate and select appropriate computational research methods for a given research question and discipline.
