Course overview

In this course, students research potential pathways and destinations in sectors that align with their disciplinary choices, interests and aspirations. Students develop and draw on skills and capabilities in (auto) ethnography and narrative inquiry, participating in experiential learning activities, guided reflection, engaging with and supported by potential community/industry partners. The outcome of their research is to identify and articulate their next steps towards securing a society and culture internship in an organisation of meaning and relevance to their future selves.

  • Pathways and partners
  • Pathways, people and projects
  • Destinations and planning

Course learning outcomes

  • Critically imagine the future of work, alongside a dispassionate assessment of one’s own ambitions and possibilities of working in a desired field
  • Apply one’s own discipline perspective(s) to a wicked or enduring problem in order to demonstrate how disciplinary work can be applied to a real world problem that might be encountered in an employment or research setting
  • Engage with the disciplinary perspectives of others in group work to collectively approach a problem
  • Critically assess the internal workings of a group to produce effective collaborative work
