Course overview
The aim of this course is to increase students’ knowledge and skills in trauma-informed social work practice. The course is framed by an intersectional understanding of gendered violence and other forms of interpersonal violence and abuse. The course will cover intimate partner violence; family and domestic violence; rape and sexual assault; sexual harassment; racialised violence; elder abuse; and other forms of abuse related to disability, gender identity and sexual identity.
Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrate an understanding of an intersectional approach to interpersonal violence and abuse
- Articulate the different theoretical and practice approaches to understanding interpersonal violence and abuse and its impact on diverse groups
- Explain the key approaches to trauma-informed practice
- Analyse the policy context relevant to interpersonal violence and abuse, and trauma informed care
- Demonstrate entry level skills and competencies required for trauma-informed social work practice with diverse groups
