Course overview
This course will enable students to consolidate their social work knowledge and skills and demonstrate professional practice at the standards expected of a new graduate. Students will consolidate their social work knowledge and skills through the placement including the conceptualisation of a specific project or program in relation to social work purpose. The students will develop advanced knowledge of social work process and frameworks, professional approaches to practice, judgement, decision-making and accountability, collegial and client relationships, and the planning, implementation and evaluation of program/service. The students will demonstrate their identification with the social work profession in practice and engage with the expectations of professional development. Students will consolidate their social work practice skills and knowledge through completion of this course.
Course learning outcomes
- Apply social work knowledge skills and values in social work practice guided by a clearly articulated social work framework of purpose, values/ethics, and knowledge
- Develop a comprehensive assessment for any given situation for potential social work intervention which recognises the impact of diversity and societal structures
- Exercise professional judgment in all aspects of social work practice
- Develop, apply and evaluate appropriate and integrated intervention strategies
- Reflect on and evaluate own practice against the Practice Standards for Field Education
- Explain the broader professional and structural implications of social work interventions and develop possible strategies to address identified issues
- Articulate their own professional identity as a social work practitioner
