Course overview
This course will consolidate student’s ability for autonomous professional social work practice and strengthen their strategies for continuing professional development. Students will explore professional judgement and ethical decision making in changing practice contexts, including the use of Artificial Intelligence tools in social work practice and will use an evaluation framework for critiquing social work practice at an individual, organisational, professional and societal level. The students will critically analyse the interplay between social work knowledge and professional social work identity; reflection and evaluation of one's own practice. Students will demonstrate their skills and ability to identify experiences of vicarious traumatisation and build on their knowledge of self-protection strategies through maximising professional and peer supervision and managing workload. Students will develop skills in marketing oneself through preparation for social work employment, refinement of their curriculum vitae and online presence while building a social work portfolio highlighting the transferability of social work skills and knowledge across a range of fields of practice.

- Critically analyse current ethical issues facing society and the social work profession, including the use of Artificial Intelligence in Social Work practice
- Articulate their professional identity and how these influences decisions made in their social work practice.
- Investigate and demonstrate the strategies for promoting professional self and proceeding through job selection
- Articulate and apply appropriate strategies for the managing of professional practice including self-care, supervision and ongoing professional development.
