Course overview
Students will develop an advanced knowledge of the social purpose of research, research design and qualitative methodologies. Students will learn how to formulate an answerable research question, write a research proposal and conduct a literature review consistent with social work values.
Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrate an advanced knowledge of the methodologies, basic logic, values, theories, concepts, principles and methods and ethics of social research
- Critically review, collect and organise relevant scholarly literature in order to argue an identified gap in academic knowledge
- Articulate the logic of research methods and designs, formulate research plans and select methods and methodologies appropriate to their specific research problem(s)
- Analyse and critically Interpret information from a variety of sources in the exploration and explanation of their identified research problem(s)
- Critically analyse ethical issues in the context of social research and formulate appropriate social work research designs
