Course overview

This course will develop students' knowledge of contemporary social work practice theories and their application. Students will develop knowledge of contemporary social work practice theories including individual-focused theories, critical and structural theories, and theories influenced by postmodernism.

Course learning outcomes

  • Apply a specialised range of practice theories and intervention strategies to professional case situations.
  • Critically analyse the appropriateness of particular contemporary social work practice theories for use in working with specific individuals, groups and communities.
  • Analyse and demonstrate a culturally competent approach to social work practice.
  • Articulate and apply a broad ethical and socio-political framework for specialised social work interventions
