Course overview
This course will develop students' knowledge and skills in social work intervention, interviewing skills and group work required for professional practice with a diverse range of individuals, families and groups. Students will develop specialised professional knowledge of the social work practice skills in social work interviews and group work. Students will practice and apply these skills in diverse contexts by developing cognitive and technical skills in reflective accountable practice using ethical decision-making contexts.
Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrate purposeful, ethical, culturally responsive and trauma-informed interviewing skills with diverse individuals, families and communities including First Nations People and culturally and linguistically diverse clients
- Critically analyse and apply the stages, purposes and processes of social work interviewing, using communication skills that demonstrate clarity, empathy, professionalism and ethical engagement
- Apply social work theories, roles, skills and techniques relevant to group work across diverse practice contexts
- Demonstrate advanced skills to plan, lead and facilitate group processes and group outcomes using ethical approaches
- Critically reflect on the use of self, professional identity, social work practice frameworks and ethical decision-making to integrate learning from social work interviewing and group work contexts, demonstrating ongoing professional development and accountability
