Course overview

Pathology is a core discipline in veterinary medicine. Students will learn general principles about the processes involved in disease. These general principles will then be demonstrated by study of specific diseases of animals and how they affect the major body systems.

Course learning outcomes

  • Effectively describe gross lesions using appropriate pathologic terminology.
  • Recognise the pathological features of the most common diseases in domestic animals and describe relevant pathogenic mechanisms.
  • Compare similar diseases in different animals.
  • Compare effects of similar lesions in disparate organ systems.
  • Synthesise visual information, physical information and laboratory data to form appropriate differential diagnoses.
  • Critically evaluate when / what diagnostic samples are required depending on the case.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the most important zoonoses.
