Course overview
This course aims to develop students' critical thinking and analytical skills through an introduction to a range of interpretative frameworks and theories that will be used to analyse or contextualise art and visual culture. Students will learn to apply critical thinking to a range of issues that are reflected in art and visual culture. Students will develop an understanding of various theories and interpretative frameworks that can be used to contextualise and analyse art and visual culture, including ideology, poststructuralism, feminism and the gaze, posthumanism, public art, gender performativity, postcolonialism, race theory. This course has an emphasis on late 20th century to 21st century art and visual culture.
